Michelle opened Bed and Biscuits in February of 2005. Her passion in life has always been dogs. When she opened, she envisioned a place where dogs could go to be dogs. A place full of love and fun but at the same time a place that was safe. A place where dogs could be in a country setting around nature and romp around and really use up their energy. She wanted a place that was near her home so the dogs would never be left alone. She has been an animal advocate and rescuer for over 16 years and absolutely loves Great Danes. She is owned by four - four legged children- Max, Myrtle, Mable and Fester. She also is owned by four- two legged children- Stephanie, Ivy, Bailey and Gage.
Lindsey has been loving and taking care of the gang at Bed and Biscuits for almost six years. The staff and the dogs absolutely adore her. Lindsey gives the dogs a calm but loving energy and always has an amazing sense of what the dogs are feeling. She spends her summers and holidays with us and during the year is studying off at college to be a vet. Lindsey is owned by many horses and dogs.
Sandra was with Bed and Biscuits for nearly three years. From the first day Sandra joined us as part of our family she believed in our dream for dogs. She was a jack of all trades but loved spending her days in the play yards with the dogs. She was such a staple around here that many of you keep asking me where she has gone. We are sad to say that Sandra and Joey moved to New York in October and we all miss them terribly. She calls and gets updates on the dogs and she is planning a trip down soon to come and visit.
Amy has been with Bed and Biscuits for four years. She keeps the place running smoothly and efficiently. There is nothing that this girl cannot do! We originally hired her because we felt that she would be a tremendous asset to the dogs and we have learned over the years that not only were we right about that but she can do everything else as well. Her heart is big and the dogs love her and we are so thankful to have her as part of our team. Amy is owned by Koda- a very, very, very big German Shepherd and Buddy- a little pug with a big heart. She also has five cats.
Stephanie has been hanging out at Bed and Biscuits since it opened. She has been working on our playground since she was in high school and is now off at Appalachian State studying Biology in hopes of being a doctor one day. We sure would like it if she became a vet! Stephanie comes home for the holidays and of course you will find her in the office welcoming dogs in over the summers. Stephanie loves all the dogs but has a special place in her heart for the little ones. She goes out of her way to make sure they feel safe and loved. Stephanie is owned by Sissy- her 19 year old Maltese.
Derek is our resident handyman, run put' er upper, room fixer, fence put'er upper, fence fixer, grill master and dog lover. You will see Derek around mostly in the evenings as he has a 5am-5pm job with the Army but every evening he comes by to see who has arrived and to say hi to them all. He is owned by Michelle.
Frances joined Bed and Biscuits in early 2010 and we feel so lucky to have her as part of our team. Frances is the quietest one of the camp counselors and because she carries her energy that way- she has an amazing ability to ease the anxiety of some our new campers as they navigate their first vacation here. Frances has grown to be an integral part of our team and the dogs look to her for her patience, understanding and love. We believe Frances has been voted the staff member most likely to be licked and kissed and the very best golf cart riding partner ever! Frances is owned by several rescue dogs and a some kitty cats as well!
We remember the day that Little Kelly walked through our door asking if we were hiring. At first glance we thought she was to young with no experience and was still in school but there was just something about this young woman that made us all vote for her over all the other applicants! We are so glad that we did. We have witnessed Kelly growing into her own person and watched her form bonds of love and affection for all our campers! She brings a breath of fresh air to all of us and we are so excited to simultaneously have her as part of our team and watch her move towards her goal of becoming a registered nurse! Kelly is owned by several dogs!
We hit the Karma Jackpot when Kayla walked through our door nearly one year ago! The military brought Kayla to the area and we would just like to say Thank You Uncle Sam! Kayla has a sort of magic to her that is really rare. The way she engages our friends that come to play is wonderful to watch. The dogs sense goodness in her presence and they immediately trust her to keep them safe, happy, and loved. She has an amazing eye that will catch the smallest detail and she is one of the friendliest, sweetest, loving young woman we have ever known. She became a member of this team almost instantly and now we cannot imagine this team without her. Kayla is owned by a little Yorkie, a Labrador and a great big Mastiff.
Here she is- Bed and Biscuits future Pack Leader. Most of you know her as Bailey. She is the youngest daughter of Michelle and Derek. She has been her Mom's shadow at the kennel since she was 8 years old. Now that she is getting older she has officially become a helper to the staff in the kennel. Bailey volunteers as a water bucket washer, food bowl scrubber, super duper pooper picker upper, a really fun golf cart companion for Rides For Rescue and the very best snuggler and hugger of our friends that come to play with us! The staff appreciates the time and energy she puts into making their jobs a little easier and her Mom really loves the idea of her Future Pack Leader Status. Bailey is owned by Mouser!
Little Miss Ivy is also one of the Fitzgerald Girls. She has grown up in and around the kennel and has a special place in her heart for the wee little dogs that come to play with us. She loves nothing more than to come out and just hold and love them and make them feel like they are the most special friend ever. We think that makes this young lady pretty special too. We love when Ivy comes out to the kennel to volunteer some time and lend her helping hands. At fourteen she has shown every member of the staff that she is trustworthy and capable and that means a whole lot to us and to the dogs that look forward to seeing her when they come to play. Ivy is owned by Fester!
